A Bridal Procession by Boat
Story by Susan Catling
Sandy Kaighin used to work as a launch operator for the Oak Bluffs Marina.
One summer day in 2003, she ferried Charlotte McCormack and her friend to a
boat. “We struck up a conversation, and before I left I asked if she’d be around
this summer,” Sandy says. “She called me two days later at work, and the rest is
history.”
When they decided to marry, it seemed natural to incorporate a boat
into the ceremony at a friend’s house on Lake Tashmoo. “As we got closer to the
dock and had a clear vision of the more than 100 guests awaiting our arrival, we
felt so lucky and loved,” Sandy says. A unity candle stood on an altar in honor
of Sandy’s deceased mother. “We arrived at the dock, the bagpipes began, and we
exchanged our personally written vows.”
