Bride on hill

Letter From the Editor

Martha’s Vineyard is a major locale for destination weddings. This isn’t quickie-wedding Vegas. Rather, the Island is a place where couples want to draw out the festivities as long as possible, celebrating with friends and family whom they don’t often – or never – have the opportunity to see together.

Some brides and grooms have long-time associations with the Island, while others may have worked here one summer during college. There are couples who think of the Island as a place to go on vacation; others call it home year-round.

Whatever the allure, people love this Island. Couples want to be photographed on the beaches and outside lighthouses. They want to be surrounded by New England architecture, embraced by small-town charm. They want to share their love with their families and friends in a place they hold dear.

As we’ve pulled together our first Island Weddings edition, the staff at Martha’s Vineyard Magazine has worked to bring you stories of Island dreams and realities. Some stories are heavy with details to help in your own wedding planning, others focus on photos to inspire you to develop your own style.

We also want to assist all those party planners for landmark anniversaries, birthdays, reunions, and more, which are so common on the Vineyard. Whatever the event, this magazine is the Island’s number one resource. As a companion to this magazine, we have a comprehensive website, with more information, at mvislandweddings.com.

After perusing this inaugural wedding edition and website, I invite you to contact us with your feedback – What helped you planned your big day? What did you want to know more about? We hope to hear from lots of newlyweds, since we’ll be looking for more romance and reality for next year’s edition.

Congratulations and Best Wishes,

Nicki Miller
