Style in Motion

Carriage, Old Red Farm Truck and Trolley

The best weddings reflect the personalities of the bride and groom, even down to logistical concerns like transportation. An equestrian enthusiast might roll up in a horse-drawn carriage, crunchy types could ride in an old VW van, and sporty couples can rent bikes so everyone can pedal themselves around. And if environmental responsibility is your thing, rent a bus or buy public bus passes for everyone and take the celebration on board. So plan for the wheels of your dreams. Companies on-Island, and even some venues, have nifty cars for your big day, if you don’t have your own. Whether it’s a vintage-looking trolley for your guests, an old red farm truck for the wedding party, or a bicycle built for two for the bride and groom, a unique conveyance adds charm.

Blue
Brianna Jean and Chris FlandersWhen Brianna Jean married Island native Chris Flanders in Chilmark, a prominent guest at their September wedding was a 1940 Buick limousine dubbed Blue. Brianna and Chris, who live in Canton, planned the affair entirely themselves, including many personal touches. And like many couples, they love the romantic feel and timeless look of a classic vehicle and wanted Blue, owned by the groom’s family, as a focal point. Since the ceremony and reception were both on family land, the couple boarded Blue and cruised down to Menemsha Beach for photos in between the events. “We drove up to the cocktail hour in it as our grand entrance,” Brianna says. Afterwards, Blue was parked near the tent, glittering under a lighted tree.
