A New Bridal Salon Opens On-Island
Slated to open in early January 2008, Tulle (named for the fabric) is the brainchild of Lisa Pyden. Before moving to the Vineyard two years ago from Michigan, Lisa studied interior architecture and design, and she has a keen eye for fashion. As a wedding photographer, she’s seen brides want for a salon on the Island: a place for last-minute needs, and one that addresses the diverse bridal aesthetic on the Vineyard.
After deciding in late June 2007 that it could work financially, Lisa moved quickly to secure a space in Edgartown’s Nevin Square and a partner in Meaghan Esposito. In addition to top-shelf brands, the shop will feature Island designer Chrysale Parrot, who makes original gowns as well as alterations. Lisa has developed a business plan that goes beyond selling pricey gowns. The salon will focus on personalized service, with an “inspiration lounge” full of back issues of bridal magazines; weekend packages for off-Island brides, which can include an overnight stay, dinner, and spa services; and an online blog. Lisa is confident the sales will come “if we give them a good experience.”
On the Runway
Tulle bridal salon features five designers: Lela Rose, Carolina Herrera, Monique Lhuillier, Amy Kuschel, and Caroline DeVillo. In October, salon co-owner and photographer Lisa Pyden attended New York fashion shows highlighting fall 2008 gowns. (All but one of the gowns seen here will be available at Tulle, but the salon can special order any gown from these designers.) Lela Rose was the only Tulle designer missing from the show: This Dallas designer recently segued into the bridal market, and Tulle is the only shop in New England selling her line. She uses a lot of natural fibers and intricate sewing detail; her prices range from $3,800 to $10,000. In addition to custom-made bridal gowns, Tulle will carry bridesmaid’s dresses by Thread and Simple Silhouettes, some off-the-rack options for brides, and accessories galore.
