On your wedding day, will you be a Blushing Bride or a Trophy Wife? Only your new hubby will know, if you don a pair of silk panties from the Mary Green lingerie line that are emblazoned with one of those phrases, among others – such as Just Married on a silk boy-short, for those looking for more subdued skivvies. At Knickers on Circuit Avenue in Oak Bluffs, the Vineyard’s only all-lingerie shop, the vast selection ranges from modest to racy, from wedding day undergarments to wedding night unmentionables.
There is an extensive collection of SPANX by Sarah Blakely, made from a fiber that combines a slimming effect with ultra support and comfort; various pieces can give you a smooth look on your wedding day, during the honeymoon, and beyond. For brides who choose more traditional undergarments, Knickers also carries a variety of bras and bustiers – including strapless, of course.
If you need any last-minute items – forget a garter? – Knickers is stocked. You might not be able to resist a couple of extras for the honeymoon: perhaps a pair of playful ruffled panties by Honeydew Intimates or thongs by Hanky Panky – touted as the world’s most comfortable thong.
Knickers owner Dulcie Rutherford has created the much-needed Vineyard lingerie shop, with bridal offerings that are trendy and have affordable options. Even the groom is not forgotten: For him, there are swanky boxers from ManSilk.
In addition to Knickers, some clothing boutiques on the Island have small sections of lingerie with limited choices. But for lingerie plus bridal gifts visit L’Elégance in Oak Bluffs, where you’ll find an outstanding array of traditional and contemporary peignoir sets. The elegant, ivory, matching gown-and-robe sets, with prices in the $500 range, have the look and feel of silk and lace. Incredibly, though, they are made from polyester for easy care.
Other after-hours wear at L’Elégance ranges from linen nightshirts to silk pajamas, cashmere robes to bed jackets. There are wedding slippers too. Noted for their personal service, owners Fred and Gloria Collins have created an establishment that offers the finest in linens, crystal, china, art, and more, including a bridal registry. Adding a favorite peignoir set to the registry will make it easy for the mother-of-the-bride to select this traditional gift to her soon-to-be-wed daughter. K
