Morgan & Wilkie

Whimsy and romanticism in Chilmark, plus the most incredible French macaron cake you've ever seen.

Morgan Levitt had two imperatives when planning her September wedding to Wilkie Catron: “I wanted it to be outside and I wanted more flowers than people,” she said.

The outside venue came courtesy of the Beach Plum Inn in Chilmark, a picturesque location famed for its rolling hills and spectacular sunsets.

The flowers were the creation of Krishana Collins, owner of Tea Lane Farm, who skillfully transformed an ombré Pinterest inspiration photo into a seasonal palette of fuchsia, pale pink, salmon, gold, pale yellow, and white. “Most color palettes have five colors,” said Morgan. “I had fifteen.”

Because she and Wilkie are based in Brooklyn – he works in investment banking, she in real estate – they wanted to make the long-distance planning process as streamlined as possible. Help came from the Beach Plum’s “fabulous” Katya Yermakova, who assisted Morgan and Wilkie in planning each detail for the wedding celebration. “For us, living in NYC with limited flexibility to come visit the Island, we really had to rely and trust our vendors to see and understand our vision,” she said. “We wound up putting together a team of people who exceeded every expectation.”

On the day of the wedding, every detail reflected the couple’s fun-loving nature, from a reading of "How Falling in Love is like Owning a Dog" during their ceremony, to oversized versions of Connect Four and Jenga, croquet, and a ring toss during the reception.

“We wanted our friends and family to feel like they were at a party at our home in the backyard with games and delicious food,” said Morgan.

DJ Rockwell provided the music as guests enjoyed a colorful macaron tower, a wedding cake with extra mascarpone whipped cream for dipping, and Wilkie’s favorite: a delivery of fresh Back Door Donuts. They capped the evening off with a sparkler send-off.

Looking back, their wedding was exactly what Morgan and Wilkie wanted. Their advice to other couples? “If it’s not fun to plan then you’re not planning a wedding that you love,” said Morgan. “That’s what makes it stressful – when you are doing things you don’t want to do or things you are pressured to do. And you won’t be happy about it on your wedding day.”
